At ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ, we offer the opportunity take music education courses in K-12 teaching methods; assessment; classroom research; and the history, philosophy and psychology of music education.

Designed for You

  • Our MAT program is ideal for those with a BA in music who need licensure to teach.
  • MAT graduates will be eligible for full certification to teach music in all grades (pre-K-12) in Rhode Island.
  • Our MMEd program is intended for licensed teachers who are pursuing advanced study.*
  • MMEd students conclude their program with a thesis involving original research in the field or a solo recital in the student’s applied area or in conducting a recital (choral or instrumental).*

*Program Update: Enrollment in our MMEd program is currently suspended.

Program Details

Admission and Course Information

You may start taking courses in the program before your Plan of Study is formulated, especially if your application process has begun and if the courses you are taking are expected to be included in your Plan of Study. A maximum of 9 credit hours taken before formal admission can be included in your program. Depending on the agreed Plan of Study, a maximum of 6 credit hours of graduate coursework may be accepted in transfer from other institutions.
